Herald is a Shopify app provided by Five Line Studio LLC (“Five Line Studio”, “we”, “us”). “Herald” is the name of our software; Five Line Studio LLC is the company that operates it and is the entity responsible for the data it processes. Herald helps merchants make their product catalog discoverable and recommendable by AI shopping assistants. This policy explains what data Herald accesses, how we use it, who we share it with, and how it is deleted.
Information we access and store
When you install Herald on your Shopify store and authorize it, we access and store the following:
- Product data from your store (titles, descriptions, product types, tags, vendor, images, prices, inventory status). Herald reads this to score and analyze your catalog, and — only when you run an enrichment — writes optimized fields and structured data back to your products.
- App data scoped to your store, stored in our database: your subscription plan, monthly usage counts, the search queries you choose to track and their results, monitoring alerts, score history, and any feature requests you submit.
- Store and account identifiers provided by Shopify during installation (your store domain and the access token that lets Herald operate on your behalf, plus basic account details Shopify includes in the session, such as name and email of the installing user).
We do not access or store your customers’ (shoppers’) personal data. Herald does not read or retain buyer names, emails, addresses, orders, or payment information. It works only with product data.
How we use it
We use the data above solely to provide the service: generating AI-legible product content, computing your Agent Readiness Score, checking whether your store appears in AI assistant answers, and sending you monitoring alerts. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
Third parties we share data with
- Anthropic (Claude AI): to generate enrichment we send product information (titles, descriptions, and images) to Anthropic’s API; to check AI visibility we send your brand name and the query text you track. Anthropic processes this to return results and does not train on data submitted through its API.
- Shopify: the platform your store and our app run on.
- Our hosting and database provider: stores the app data described above on secure infrastructure.
- Web search: AI-visibility checks query the public web to determine how your store is recommended.
Data retention and deletion
We retain your store-scoped data only while Herald is installed. When you uninstall the app, Shopify notifies us and Herald automatically and permanently deletes all data associated with your store, in line with Shopify’s mandatory data-erasure requirements. You may also request deletion at any time by contacting us. Structured data Herald wrote to your own products remains in your Shopify store under your control.
Your rights
We support Shopify’s mandatory GDPR/CCPA data-request and redaction webhooks. If you would like to access, correct, or delete data we hold, contact us using the details below and we will respond within the timeframes required by applicable law.
Security
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and access tokens are stored securely. We restrict access to your data to what is necessary to operate the service.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time; material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above.
